“It’s the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter.” ― Marlene Dietrich
Meet one of my 4am friends, Steven. Over the last 9 months, we’ve explored Washington DC, Austin, and Denver together. I didn’t realize it until recently that this was the first time we had traveled anywhere together. Growing up we spent most of our time biking around Winter Park hanging out in random parks and staying up way too late. The amazing thing is that our friendship is one where we can stay in the same spot for hours and it still feels like we covered so much ground through conversation and how we use the given space. Folks like this are rare – most you have to entertain and find stimulation through what’s happening in the environment. We balance each other out – I tend to bring the conversation piece with non stop questions and Steven consistently challenges me to change how I view my environment and this shell of a body I live in. When we’re together, we create joy and adventure just by being present with who we are and working with the environment we are in.
It’s wonderful to know that we could travel the world or stay in the same spot and still have a glorious time together.
